Celebration of Life is a queer electronic music event and community based in Antwerp.

At its heart, it is a place to come together, dance, discover music, meet people and celebrate queer culture. Our events combine electronic music, nightlife, self-expression and community, with a strong focus on creating an inclusive and safer environment.

Everyone who respects our community and our values is welcome.

Celebration of Life is created with the LGBTQIA+ community at its heart, but you do not have to identify as LGBTQIA+ to attend.

Allies are welcome too.

What matters is that you come with an open mind, respect the people around you and contribute to the atmosphere we create together.

The name Celebration of Life came from a time when there were way too many event concepts with names that sounded dark, negative or unnecessarily dramatic. We wanted the complete opposite: a VERY positive name.

So, Celebration of Life it was.

Later, we Googled it.

Turns out … it’s not quite as positive as we thought. Google Images had us staring at flowers, candles and memorial cards. “A Celebration of Life” is also commonly used as a term for funerals — including in parts of South America, where a funeral can literally be described as a celebration of someone’s life.

And honestly? We thought that was kind of beautiful.

So yes… twice a year, we organise a queer funeral.

Come as you are. We promise the music will be better than at the average funeral.

Yes.

We want financial circumstances to be less of a barrier to participating in our community. Trix and Celebration of Life offers financial hardship tickets when available.

You can email Trix at tickets@trixonline.be with your A-card code (bewijs van verhoogde tegemoetkoming) and proof of increased reimbursement, and they will make sure you can attend at a reduced rate of 20%. However, these tickets are limited.

Alongside established and international artists, we actively look for underrepresented and emerging talent. Open calls are one of the ways we connect with artists and give new voices opportunities to become part of the Celebration of Life programme.

Absolutely.

A lot of people come to Celebration of Life on their own. The atmosphere is designed to make it possible to meet people, dance and enjoy the night without needing to arrive as part of a large group.

You don't have to know anyone beforehand to be part of Celebration of Life.

Music is at the very heart of Celebration of Life.

We focus on electronic music, underground sounds and forward-thinking club music, with lineups that reflect the diversity and creativity of contemporary queer nightlife.

Rather than limiting ourselves to one particular genre, we are interested in music that works in a club environment and creates a strong collective experience. Depending on the edition and the artists involved, the sound can move across different corners of electronic music and club culture.

What connects the music is not necessarily a single BPM, genre or sound. It is the energy, attitude, creativity and sense of freedom behind it.

Overall, Room 1 — the Main Room — leans towards the harder side of Celebration of Life, with powerful, intense and driving sounds, and artists pushing deeper, darker and more energetic corners of electronic music and club culture.

Room 2 takes a more diverse approach, moving across different electronic and club sounds, moods and energies. Expect more variation, unexpected turns and a broader palette of sounds throughout the night.

Across both rooms, expect adventurous DJs and performers, powerful dance-floor moments and artists who are pushing electronic music and club culture forward.

Not exclusively.

Although techno and other harder or more underground electronic sounds are part of our musical universe, Celebration of Life is not defined by one genre.

Our lineups are intentionally diverse. We are interested in artists who bring something distinctive to the dance floor, whether that is through techno, house, electro, breaks, disco, experimental club music or other forms of electronic music.

The music can change from edition to edition. That's part of the experience.

No.

There is no required dress code or particular way you are expected to look.

Come dressed or undressed in whatever makes you feel comfortable, confident and like yourself.

We encourage every form of self-expression, but nobody should feel pressured to dress, look or behave in a particular way.

We aim to create the safest space possible, but we prefer the term "safer space" because no nightlife environment can guarantee absolute safety.

Every event is supported by a trained, sober awareness team that is present and approachable throughout the night, together with professional security.

We also have house rules that everyone agrees to follow when entering the event.

Creating a safer space isn't something the organization can do alone. It is something we build collectively—with artists, staff, volunteers and everyone on the dance floor.

The awareness team is there to help people feel comfortable and supported during the event.

They are trained to recognize situations where someone may need assistance and are available if you experience or witness inappropriate, uncomfortable or unsafe behavior.

You can approach them if you need help, have a concern, or simply don't know who else to talk to.

We expect everyone to treat each other with respect.

Discrimination, harassment, intimidation, unwanted sexual behaviour, racism, transphobia, homophobia and other forms of hateful or disrespectful behaviour have no place at Celebration of Life.

Consent matters.

If someone tells you no, moves away, doesn't respond or otherwise indicates that they are not interested, respect that immediately.

The dance floor is a shared space. Look after yourself, look after each other and respect people's boundaries.

On the event, please speak to a member of the awareness team, security or another member of the Celebration of Life crew.

If you are unsure whether something is serious enough to report, you can always message us here.

You don't have to deal with an uncomfortable situation alone.

Please be mindful when taking photos or videos.

Not everyone wants to appear in someone else's social media content, particularly in a queer nightlife environment. Always respect people's privacy and boundaries.

If someone asks you not to photograph or film them, respect their request.

However we’d rather see you dancing than filming, so we encourage you to stay present and enjoy the moment. It’s not a strict rule — just part of the spirit of the night.

We have our own professional photo and camera crew that catches the vibe of our event. We might use this material for marketing purposes. 

Should you find material of yourself online that you don’t want shared, please let us know via the contact form on this site (not anonymous). We will remove it immediately. 

A playroom isn’t part of the Celebration of Life experience, and that’s a conscious choice.

Celebration of Life is about music, dancing, connection, self-expression and collective celebration. We want the energy of our events to stay focused on the dance floor and the experience we create together.

Adding a playroom just because it’s expected of a queer event would feel forced to us, especially when there isn’t a natural place for one within the event. We believe every element should have a purpose and genuinely add something to the experience we’re creating.

We know playrooms are an important part of some queer nightlife spaces, and we have nothing against that. Different parties, different vibes. We know which one we want to celebrate. :)

When an open call is active, we will announce it through our official channels.

We encourage artists from different backgrounds and areas of electronic music to keep an eye on our announcements.

There are many ways to be part of Celebration of Life.

You can attend our events, support the artists, share our work, apply to participate when open calls are available, volunteer when opportunities arise, or simply contribute to the atmosphere by treating the people around you with kindness and respect.

We also really value the support we receive from our community. Sharing an event, telling a friend about it, reposting our content or simply spreading the word can make a real difference — especially at times when social media algorithms make it harder for independent events and artists to reach their audience.

Every bit of support helps us grow the community and keep Celebration of Life moving forward.
